Author Interview – Madeleine McLaughlin

Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)? No. No travel yet. But I’ve done some research on certain crimes of the past and wouldn’t mind visiting the places where these crimes took place. One in Ontario and one in BC.

What books have most influenced your life? History books because I learned a lot about the world and good and bad people and what ordinary people can be driven to. When I’ve read about cast-aways, there were one or two who tried to set up a power base over the others and then there were people who went out of their way to help. Why does one choose one way and another choose the other way? That’s what I try to figure out as I write.

Have you ever considered anyone as a mentor? No.

Who is your favorite author and why? The late Harry Thompson because he’s also a history writer along with a historical fiction writer. Plus he has beautiful prose.

Can we expect any more books from you in the future? I hope so.

Have you started another book yet? Yes.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Hopefully with more books but same place as now, same life.

What are your current writing projects now? I’m writing several stories, mostly dark but I’m also working on two novellas. I hope to enter one into a contest or publish them together in a book.

Are you reading any interesting books at the moment? Everything I read is interesting. I’m interested in people and that’s what books are about.

Are there any new authors that have sparked your interest and why? Heather Haven. Such good characters. I can’t wait for Hollywood to make movies of her books.

When Kevin learns of his mountain town’s evil past, he must struggle to understand his father’s part in it and how it affects himself.
