BoX by Lucas Heath
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Does the plot come across clearly? The plot didn’t really work for me. I felt the scenes jumped to frequently and in an abrupt manner. I would have preferred a smoother transition to each flashback, each different cube and each POV. Yes, the book may have been longer but this would have been better than the reader feeling like a bouncing ball. I liked the book and the writing but it’s not a favourite.
Favourite scene …. Barry and Boxer’s conversation was much like art imitating reality or the other way around. My book club members and I were discussing this part around the same time as Oscar Pistorius’ trial was starting so Barry’s confession about accidentally shooting Boxer’s daughter because he thought she was a burglar was deja vu.
Favourite quote … “We will make do with what we have. By the end of this next test, ten more subjects will be eliminated.” This is the part that the story became interesting for me. Jacob’s lack of feeling for another human is blatantly obvious at this point and you can’t help but keep reading to find out if he’s crazy enough to be right.
