Order of Earth by Jennifer Cornet
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The story was better than good but less than great. Many chapters of the book grabbed my attention but there were also some chapters that felt unnecessary, as if the author was trying to keep to a word count. You keep expecting Onyx’s journey into the supernatural to explode but it takes a long time for the author to guide the reader to what really matters in the story.
For the most part, this back and forth feeling I had about the book had to do with Onyx herself. She felt like an anti-hero. Strong and confident one minute, lost and confused the next. Progressively this does get better and I enjoyed the second half of the book.
In a nutshell, this was a fine story about about a girl who overcomes major obstacles when a simple tattoo reveals more than what she was expecting. Good book.
